Doug Ducey SOTSI’m a firm believer in giving credit to where credit is due. Hitting the ground running on day one, Gov. Doug Ducey successfully emerged from one of the shortest yet fruitful legislative sessions in recent history. Just nine months into his four-year term, Ducey has made tremendous strides in accomplishing much of what he promised during his campaign—a fiscally balanced budget, fewer regulations and improving the perception of Arizona.

Recently, our Chamber was honored to have Ducey as a special guest and featured speaker at the Greater Phoenix Chamber’s Premier Leadership Series event where he provided insights on his vision for moving Arizona forward. His priorities and strategies—a bold K-12 education reform package, growing and retaining Arizona businesses, a more competitive tax code and championing for limited government—are all focused on making Arizona competitive regionally, nationally and globally.

Ducey also has been instrumental outside of Arizona in creating a better relationship with our number-one trading partner. Strengthening trade relations with Mexico continues to positively impact our local economy. What does this mean for Arizona residents and local businesses? It means greater access to what will be the world’s fifth-largest economy by 2025 and a collaborative and shared journey toward greater prosperity.

As testament to this new normal, the Mexican federal government is also investing in Arizona’s economy. ProMexico—Mexico’s top economic development agency—will soon open a new trade office in Phoenix which shows that our relationship with Mexico has reached a turning point. This is a move in the right direction for Arizona and Mexican relations and will go a long way in facilitating business between local companies and our neighbor to the south. International trade is important for Arizona’s economy and we stand ready to help our Chamber members to tap into new markets.

Coming from a strong business background, Ducey understands the Chamber’s goals, mission and what’s important to our members. His keen understanding of our need to develop a qualified workforce and his multi-billion dollar proposal for the K-12 education system will further the vitality of our state and transform the future of Arizona.

The Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce is proud to have a great partner in Ducey and applauds his dedication to growing the economy and creating jobs. A strong and vibrant economy is key to providing greater opportunity for all. The Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce will continue working and collaborating with Governor Ducey to ensure the business community is heard on important issues that impact our local economy to move Arizona forward.
