Bill Spotlight
Bill: SB 1455 – parental opt-out; statewide assessments
Primary Sponsor: Sen. Sylvia AllenStatus: Failed on Senate floor; Reconsideration vote possible.Summary: SB 1455 would allow parents, on behalf of their child, to opt-out of any statewide assessment adopted by the Arizona State Board of Education.

Recommendation: The Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce opposes this bill as it removes a critical accountability measure for our educational system.

The Chamber supports educational policies that maintain high education standards and provide meaningful levels of training and education for quality employment and continued pursuit of higher education. An important component of implementing high standards is the ability to measure those standards. These assessments, along with other indicators, are critical measures for school accountability and performance.

GPCC opposes this and any future efforts to reduce educational accountability.
