The Chamber’s annual IMPACT Award nomination forms are officially open. These awards honor the accomplishments of outstanding Arizona businesses and their positive impact on the Greater Phoenix community. They also present an incredible opportunity to recognize local businesses and nonprofits making a difference. The IMPACT Awards offer great public exposure and a chance for community involvement. A few past recipients include Fairytale Brownies, China Mist Brands, the Phoenix Zoo, Risas Dental and Braces, Translational Genomics Institute (TGen) and Ideas Collide.
Matthew Clyde shares the unique experience he had when his company, Ideas Collide, won an IMPACT Award last year.
Describe your reaction to being nominated for an IMPACT Award.
Humble, honored and excited. At the time we were a new, growing company and felt we had no chance of even being selected let alone being a finalist and then receiving an award — the entire process was inspiring to be among other dynamic, energetic and compelling businesses and business leaders in the Valley; it was an amazing process throughout.
What effect did knowing you were in the running for this prestigious recognition have on your team?
Overall, just being part of the process was an honor, but as you progress you want to clearly stand out and show what’s unique about your organization and why it is making an impact in Phoenix. We wanted to really do it for our team and all the time/effort they contribute to our business, so it was a way to really champion and make an impact on how they are contributing to our firm and also overall to their careers and the community. To be featured and showcased via the Chamber and receive that recognition is a significant accomplishment.
Do you have any words of wisdom for businesses nominated for the 2016 IMPACT Awards?
Make time to make the most of it. Clear calendars, involve your team and entire organization, celebrate each win (big or small) along the way — it is a recognition and opportunity to participate and celebrate every aspect of what you are proud of in your business and what you are doing right.
What was your most memorable moment from the IMPACT Awards event?
Being there with our entire team and then hearing our name called out, it was very memorable and then you stand up and see the room and so many leaders, C-level executives that you admire or recognize in the community — it was overwhelming but worth it.
What do the IMPACT Awards mean to you? Would you recommend that other companies participate?
Overall we love giving back to the Valley and making Phoenix thrive in any way possible. To be part of the process and to continue to give back to the Chamber is very important to us because we want to make this a place our families, team members and clients love to live and work in.
The IMPACT Awards celebrate all organizations that are doing that, we need to continue to showcase and celebrate the individuals and teams that are making an impact and are building the future business success of Phoenix as a whole.
Why does Ideas Collide place such a high emphasis on company culture?
It always pays back, if you invest first in your team they will invest whole heartedly in your vision, product, service – we put culture first and in turn our team delivers for our clients at the highest level. I am a big believe in the return on culture investment (ROCI).
Note: Nominations are open from now until Friday, Jan. 8. Two businesses will be honored in each of the four categories. A new award has been added to this year to recognize a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
