As Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce community relations coordinator, Emily Hegdahl is very much in the know. Hegdahl recently graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelors of Science in tourism development and management and certificates in special events management and convention sales and meeting planning. A lover of travel, Hegdahl obtained nine stamps on her passport by the age of seven and shows no signs of slowing down.
What do you do at the chamber?
I manage registration for our signature events. My job is to provide support in areas of special events and fund development. Reach out to me if you are interested in attending any of our signature events!
What values/skills do you hope to gain as a member of Valley Young Professionals (VYP)?
I hope to make strong connections with other young professionals while having fun and learning as much as I can.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself as a well-traveled young professional that feels inspired and passionate about my job while living in my gorgeous home with a lot of dogs.
What causes are you passionate about?
Women’s rights, especially of those in younger ages. I think it’s important for women to feel empowered to be strong, passionate and vocal. Girl power!
Our veterans need more support. Both of my brothers served in the Army, one of whom served two tours in Iraq.
I am not as active as I wish in animal rights, but I have a big soft spot for all of our furry friends. I hope to do more volunteering in the future.
Any mentors or role models?
My mother. She showed me the importance of hard work, but made sure to always balance that with fun.
Any advice for the next generation entering the workforce?
I consider myself to be entering the workforce so it is difficult for me to give advice, but I think as a young person entering the professional workforce it is very important to know your worth. Young professionals may not have a plethora of experience but we bring value and innovation to the table with a smart work ethic. It is easy to forgot that when we work among veterans in the field.
Favorite thing to do outside of work?
Travel. If I can’t take long adventurous cross country or worldwide trips, I love to take day and weekend trips around Arizona or even Nevada. Now that it is fall season, I enjoy cooking and watching football with my friends. Go Broncos (and Cardinals)!
