Next month, Carrie Young the Senior Director of Corporate Operations Services for Salt River Project, will speak at the Professional Women’s Alliance luncheon. She will share her unique career journey including her transition from the military into the civilian workforce.
“Throughout my career, whether in the military or the corporate world—and my personal life, as well—I have followed the same basic tenets,” said Young. “No matter what situation or challenge I have faced in my life, my guiding principles have grounded me and kept me moving forward.”
As an Air Force Veteran, she will discuss the leadership skills she gained and applies to her current career, and will share techniques on how you can develop your own professional skills.
“When I started my military career, I had no idea where my career path would lead me,” said Young. “What I did know is I was blessed with an opportunity to serve, grow, build the skills and discipline that would allow me to take on any leadership role.”
In her life, career and community are two key pillars that motivate her to grow and prosper.
“Community involvement is a great way to grow in your own development, expand your network, build relationships and to feel good about contributing and giving back,” said Young.
She believes in making the time and space in her life for community involvement. Her secret to successfully leading in her career and in the community is to identify one or two focus areas.
“As a servant leader, I’m inspired to be a positive role model, a mentor and leader who actively participates, champions for and serves the community,” Young said.
At the Feb. 13 Professional Women’s Alliance luncheon, she will shed light on how she remains engaged with veterans by serving as an appointed Commissioner for the City of Phoenix Veteran Commission and how the business community can effectively help veterans transition into civilian careers.
