Lobbying firm relies on work ethic

Sometimes understanding the state’s legislative and regulatory processes can be a bit challenging. But as business leaders know well, it’s important — and in a lot of cases, it helps to have an expert on your side.

That’s where Isaacson & Walsh, PC, comes in. The firm, which represents businesses and groups at the state Legislature and before state agencies, works with organizations of all sizes across a wide variety of industries. Firm partners Don Isaacson and Cheyenne Walsh have vast of experience, including a number of years working in and with the Arizona Legislature.

Their success and strong reputation, they say, stems from their dedication and hard work.

“Clients come to us with an immediate need or an ongoing need to know what’s going on in state government,” Isaacson says. “They hire us because they want someone to be there to intervene on their behalf at the various levels of state government.”

Isaacson & Walsh enjoys the highest ranking among law firms from Martindale-Hubbell, the standard of peer evaluation of lawyers in the country. And as a law firm, I&W is able to offer a broader range of services than many lobbying firms.

“We provide legal advice and legal representation and we lobby,” Isaacson adds. “The counsel we provide is government affairs, but everything has a legal dimension to it.”

One thing they aren’t, though, is partisan.

“We make it a point to be absolutely neutral and nonpolitical,” Isaacson says. “Our belief is that success is achieved by outworking the opposition.”

With the recognition that there’s no such thing as an easy bill, education and effective communication are essential.

“You can’t afford to have a member misread something and come to a conclusion that’s wrong,” he says.

On more complicated issues, it can require the entire legislative session to achieve their clients’ goals. But, Isaacson says, they don’t give up.

“Most people would say we don’t take on matters lightly,” he adds. “If we take on a matter, we’ll do whatever can — as long as it’s legal and ethical — to achieve success.”
