Cox awards $35,000 in scholarships to Arizona high school grads

Ten Arizona students receive Cox Diversity Scholarships as they prepare to enter college

PHOENIX – Cox is announcing the ten winners of this year’s Cox Diversity Scholarship, who will each be awarded $3,500 for their education.

“We are proud to again award scholarships to an exceptional group of young Arizona adults. These annual Cox Diversity Scholarships are how we demonstrate our commitment to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion both within our company and in the communities we serve,” said Susan Anable, Cox Phoenix market vice president.

This year’s Arizona Cox Diversity Scholars are:

  1. Aaron Lam, who attended University High School in Tucson, will attend the University of Arizona to study Computer Science
  2. Victoria Rosas, who attended Bioscience High School in Phoenix, will attend the University of Arizona and will study Pre-Medicine
  3. Jose Eduardo Tanori, who attended University High School in Tucson, will attend the University of Arizona and study International Business
  4. Ayan Ahmed, who attended Wilson College Prep in Phoenix, will attend Arizona State University to study Aviation
  5. Yeshua Ayala, who attended Metro Tech High School in Phoenix, will attend Washington University in St. Louis to study Computer Programming
  6. Brissa Luna, who attended Campo Verde High School in Gilbert, will attend Arizona State University to study Pharmacology
  7. Debby Suarez Ortega, who attended Metro Tech High School in Phoenix, will attend Arizona State University to study Audiology
  8. Sami Qureshi, who attended Basis High School in Chandler, will attend Arizona State University to study Biological Sciences
  9. Sarah Ramos-Gonzalez, who attended North High School in Phoenix, will attend Yale University to study Sociology
  10. Hallie Smith, who attended Arizona College Prep High School in Chandler, will attend Arizona State University to study Biology

Sami Qureshi just graduated from BASIS Chandler and will attend Arizona State University in the fall where he plans to major in Biological Sciences. “Receiving this recognition and award from Cox means a lot. It gives some financial relief and allows me to pay for tuition and supplies with more ease,” says Qureshi.

These competitive scholarships require applicants to be on track for graduation with a minimum 2.5 grade point average, provide demonstrated leadership and community service as well as submit an essay focused on a significant leader from their respective diverse community.

Since 2021, Cox has awarded $105,000 in Diversity Scholarships to students in Arizona in partnership with YWCA Metro Phoenix, ACEL, Be a Leader Foundation, NAACP Maricopa Branch, One n Ten, Sunnyside Educational Foundation, Women’s Foundation for the State of Arizona, Greater Phoenix Urban League, Valle Del Sol and the Educational Enrichment Foundation.
