Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona & Maricopa Association of Governments’ Heat Relief Network Team Up to Provide Relief to People Experiencing Homelessness

WHY:

With temperatures well over 100 degrees in metro Phoenix and extreme heat advisories in effect, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona is teaming up with local organizations in metro Phoenix to help people in need stay safe through the heat.

WHAT:

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona is hosting an AZ Blue Day of Service from 8 am to noon this Wednesday, July 12, when more than 30 of its employees will volunteer at several different locations around metro Phoenix to provide heat relief to people experiencing homelessness in metro Phoenix.

This Wednesday, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona employees will volunteer at a few different metro Phoenix locations, including The Human Services Campus in Phoenix. More than 25 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona employees will assist in heat relief efforts at The Human Services Campus by handing out water in key areas of the campus, alongside campus staff, to enhance the accessibility of water and other heat relief items.

Maricopa Association of Governments’ Heat Relief Network is a regional partnership of municipalities, nonprofit organizations, the faith-based community, and businesses. Each year, MAG coordinates the mapping of the Heat Relief Network, a network of partners providing hydration stations, refuge locations, and water donation sites throughout the Valley with the goal of preventing heat-related illnesses and deaths among vulnerable populations. The mission of The Human Services Campus (The HSC) is to use the power of collaboration to provide solutions to end homelessness.
