PhxArt opened its doors in 1959 after decades of tremendous volunteer, donor, and civic advocacy and support—from federal WPA funding to city bonds and major gifts of art that brought iconic works by Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keeffe, and countless others to our galleries. In 2023 the Museum convened a core task force of representatives from the Board of Trustees, Museum Docents, and community, joined by employees from across departments. We identified specific areas of opportunity to help the Museum achieve greater inclusivity, accessibility, and financial sustainability, along with strategic collection growth. The result is a roadmap that will guide us over the next five years as we approach our 70th anniversary.
