Cox employees raised nearly $700K for AZ nonprofits

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 30, 2024

PHOENIX — Cox employees have raised $698,500 for Arizona nonprofits in the communities where Cox employees live and work. This is up nearly 10% from last year. One hundred twenty-four (124) Arizona nonprofits have just been notified of their grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000. This marks the 28th year that Cox employees, through Cox Charities, have raised funds to help those in need of vital services. Since 1996, Cox Arizona employees statewide have raised over $11 million and awarded grants to more than 1,900 local Arizona nonprofits.

Why it matters:

Charitable giving declined 2.1% last year, an event only seen four other times in the last 40 years: 1987, 2008, 2009 and 2022. The 3,100 employees at Cox announced today that their giving has increased this year.

Digging deeper:

Recipient organizations are focused on education, diversity, environment and sustainability programs. Most of the funds come from employee-driven fundraisers and donations by Cox employees and their families.

Central Arizona Shelter Services is Arizona’s largest and longest serving emergency shelter program serving people experiencing homelessness. Both adult and family shelters operate at full capacity every day of the year. The Cox grant will help provide 175 youth and children experiencing homelessness access to reliable digital tools for enrichment and educational activities, including opportunities to complete school assignments and access to other educational opportunities and digital resources.

Ryan’s House is an organization designed to deliver multiple adaptive modes of on-site care, Ryan House embraces all children and their families as they navigate life-limiting or end-of-life journeys. The organization offers pediatric respite care to help a family take breaks from the stress of round-the-clock home care and creates opportunities for kids to be kids, where they can spend time with other children like them. The organization has 294 children and families enrolled in their respite program.

Brighter Way Institute provides Arizona veterans, the unhoused population, domestic violence victims, and many other vulnerable populations in need with comprehensive dental care. These high-risk groups who are experiencing a decline in their quality of life and/or health due to a lack of sufficient funds for proper care, receive high-quality dental care at a discounted rate at Brighter Way. The Cox grant will help fund Brighter Way’s mobile dental health services, specifically for uninsured children, which will reach more than 2600 individuals in need.
