The Maricopa County Special Health Care District Board of Directors is seeking applicants for appointment to the Board that oversees Valleywise Health, our community’s leading public teaching hospital and safety net system of care. Director Kate Brophy McGree resigned as of December 31, 2024, to take her elected position on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.
“We are grateful for Kate’s service and many contributions to our health care system,” said Board Chairman Virginia L. Korte. “We wish her well and look forward to working with her in her new role as a member of the Board of Supervisors.”
Applicants for appointment to fill Director Brophy McGee’s District 3 seat are asked to complete an application and return it with a resume no later than 5:00 p.m., on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Completed applications and resumes should be emailed to [email protected]. The application is available on the Valleywise Health website.
To be eligible, an applicant must be a registered voter, reside in District 3 and cannot be an elected or appointed state or county official or a person who serves on a hospital board. Applicants also cannot be an employee of Valleywise Health or a director, officer, or employee of another health care institution. The successful applicant will be appointed by the Maricopa County Special Health Care District Board of Directors and will complete the remaining term vacated by Director Brophy McGee. Once appointed, the new District 3 Board Member will serve from the time of appointment until the official canvass of the November 3, 2026, General Election. District 3 serves the cities of Anthem, Cave Creek, Desert Hills, New River, Paradise Valley, and Phoenix.
Time commitments include attending one public board meeting per month and additional special board meetings and involvement at various hospital functions including grand openings and employee appreciation events.
