Phoenix Mercury honors Gender Equality Month

The Phoenix Mercury was founded in 1997 as one of eight original WNBA franchises. Three-time WNBA Champions in 2007, 2009 and 2014, the Mercury have featured some of the league’s most iconic and dynamic players, including Diana Taurasi, the GOAT and WNBA’s all-time leading scorer, as well as the best fanbase in the WNBA – the X-Factor.

Within the organization, the Mercury are setting the standard for women’s sports by making investments in its players, business operations and brand. The franchise sets itself apart by prioritizing innovation, excellence and a commitment to elevating women’s basketball. In July 2024, the Mercury opened a state-of-the-art $100 million practice facility that marked a groundbreaking investment and set a new standard in women’s professional sports. The 58,000-square-foot facility features world-class amenities including two indoor courts dedicated to WNBA legend Diana Taurasi, advanced performance analytic and recovery technologies, as well as luxury amenities.

The Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation has granted more than $45 million to community partners since its inception and positively impacts more than 400,000 youth each year. In January of 2024, the Mercury launched Jr. Mercury Legacy League in partnership with Valley of the Sun YMCA – the first-ever all-girls youth basketball league so girls in the Valley would have a league of their own to play in.
