Businesswoman Spotlight: Maria Mwangi, Vice President of Warehouse215

Maria Mwangi, Vice President of Warehouse215 in Downtown Phoenix, is more than a business leader—she’s a trailblazer redefining what it means to lead with purpose, innovation, and heart.

Since stepping into her role in 2022, Maria has guided Warehouse215 through a transformative chapter, helping turn a 1918 industrial warehouse into one of Phoenix’s most dynamic and sought-after event venues. Under her leadership, Warehouse215 achieved over $2.4 million in annual revenue, increased event bookings by 78% year-over-year, and earned prestigious accolades including four NACEy Awards for Best in Arizona for corporate and social events as well as a finalist position for the Greater Phoenix Chamber IMPACT Awards.

But Maria’s impact reaches far beyond numbers. A champion for inclusive hiring and community empowerment, she spearheaded initiatives that provided seasonal employment for over 150 individuals, many from recovery programs and underserved communities. Through strategic partnerships and $500,000+ in in-kind nonprofit support, Warehouse215 has become a hub for economic growth, social impact, and creative expression.

A proud advocate for women in leadership, Maria currently serves as President of WISE Arizona (Women in Sports and Events) and co-founded two major industry awards: the Phoenix NACEy Awards and the Antonian Awards in San Antonio, Texas. Her passion for mentorship and community service has inspired countless women to pursue careers in events and overcome personal hardships—something Maria understands deeply, having openly shared her own journey through grief, trauma, and sobriety.

Her leadership style? Hire for will, not just skill. Her philosophy has led to a reduction in staff turnover and the cultivation of a tight-knit, purpose-driven team that delivers high-level hospitality in a venue known for hosting everyone from corporate leaders to chart-topping performers—and even Vice President Kamala Harris.

Maria’s story is one of resilience, reinvention, and relentless belief in people. Whether she’s leading a multimillion-dollar event portfolio, advocating for minority-owned businesses, or mentoring the next generation of female leaders, she leads with authenticity, grace, and a powerful vision of what’s possible.
