May marks Military Appreciation Month — a time dedicated to honoring the incredible service and sacrifice of our military men and women. For young professionals in the Greater Phoenix business community, it is not just another calendar observance sandwiched between Cinco de Mayo celebrations and Memorial Day weekend getaways. It’s a powerful reminder that the freedoms we enjoy — from launching startups to leading Monday morning meetings (even the ones that could have been emails) — are made possible by the brave individuals who wear the uniform.

Military Appreciation Month isn’t just about history lessons or waving flags (though we encourage both). It’s about acknowledging the discipline, leadership, and grit that our military members exemplify — values that also form the backbone of any thriving business community. Whether you are scaling a company, building your career, or working to make Phoenix an even greater place to live and work, there’s much we can learn from their service mindset: adaptability, resilience, teamwork, and a commitment to something larger than oneself.

So, how can you show your appreciation this month? It can be as simple as thanking a veteran, supporting businesses owned by military families, attending a community event, or using your professional platform to highlight the importance of service. Even better, find ways to integrate veteran talent into your teams — because let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want a colleague who thrives under pressure, shows up early, and is prepared to tackle any challenge that comes our way?!

At the Greater Phoenix Chamber, we believe our military community enriches the fabric of our workforce and the spirit of our city. This May, let’s not just say “thank you for your service.” Let’s show it — through action, opportunity, and genuine connection.

To all our veterans, active-duty service members, and their families: we salute you. Our businesses, our community, and our future are stronger because of you.

Happy Military Appreciation Month, Phoenix — let’s make it count!
