Haven Behavioral Hospital of Phoenix CEO Bill Southwick is a seasoned executive with more than three decades of health care experience, spending much of that time in positions of leadership. He brings a passion for high-quality, compassionate behavioral health services to his role.
Prior to joining Haven Behavioral Hospital of Phoenix, Bill served as CEO of the Behavioral Health Center of Porter Health Village in Norman, Oklahoma, where he helped launch the new hospital and expand services in the community. Both hospitals are a part of the nationwide behavioral health system, Oceans Healthcare.
Southwick has held a broad range of leadership roles across a variety of medical and behavioral health settings, from 28-bed hospitals to major medical centers. He led the behavioral health operations for Banner Health – one of the largest nonprofit hospital systems and integrated delivery networks in the country – for more than five years. During his time, he oversaw operations for 305 of the system’s inpatient behavioral health beds, multiple intensive outpatient programs and a specialized school program for children ages 4-12.
Bill’s leadership approach is grounded in visibility, trust and collaboration, with a strong focus on quality outcomes. He enjoys bringing teams together, often through creative events and engagement strategies that foster a strong culture of satisfaction among staff, physicians and patients alike.
He is a board-certified registered nurse who began his health care career as a certified nursing assistant in 1988, primarily serving Alzheimer’s patients. This experience shaped his lifelong commitment to patient care. With that on-the-ground knowledge, Bill offers a combination of acute experience and operational understanding, which allows him to be a hands-on, trusted leader.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bill has been married to the love of his life for 36 years. He and his wife have four children and five grandchildren, including three through adoption. He is bilingual in English and Italian and trained in group facilitation and coaching techniques.
