Introducing VYP’s FY26 Nonprofit Partner – The Joy Bus

The Joy Bus is a nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to relieve the daily struggles of people with cancer by delivering fresh, medically tailored meals with a friendly face. Our mission is to improve the lives of our patrons through good food and meaningful connection.

Founded in 2011 by award-winning chef Jennifer Caraway, The Joy Bus was named in honor of her dear friend Joy, who battled ovarian cancer with grace, drive, and determination until her passing. Joy’s spirit continues to inspire our work to support those facing the same fight.

Many cancer patients are left to fend for themselves during one of the most challenging times in their lives. The Joy Bus eases that burden by providing nourishing meals designed to meet the specific dietary needs of individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Each meal is prepared with care and delivered by dedicated volunteers—many of whom are cancer survivors themselves—bringing not just food, but also companionship and hope.

What began with just one meal a week has grown into a powerful community effort. Today, The Joy Bus delivers more than 250 meals each week across the Phoenix area and is preparing to expand service tenfold to 2,500 meals per week with the opening of our new headquarters in 2025. Our impact has been recognized citywide, with September 28 officially proclaimed as “The Joy Bus Day” by Mayor Kate Gallego.

Through the support of hospitals, universities, local businesses, and generous donors, The Joy Bus continues to expand access to medically tailored meals while advancing the “Food is Medicine” movement in Arizona. By combining nutrition, compassion, and community, we are working to ensure no cancer patient faces their journey alone.
