Dear Members of Phoenix Valley Young Professionals,
I am honored to step into the role of Vice Chair for the Phoenix Valley Young Professionals (VYP) Board of Directors this year! It is an incredible opportunity to serve alongside such an inspiring and forward-thinking group of leaders who are dedicated to making a positive impact in our community.
Throughout my career, I’ve been driven by a steadfast commitment to community and connection. In my role as Director of Community Engagement at the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC), I lead a dedicated team focused on building strategic partnerships with corporations and foundations, actively recruiting and empowering volunteers, and coordinating community outreach efforts to raise public awareness of our mission. Through these initiatives, we work to increase access to critical services and support for individuals with autism and their families across Arizona. Over the past six years, this work has not only shaped my approach to leadership but also strengthened my dedication to inclusion, empathy, and empowering others to lead with confidence. These core values will continue to guide me in this new role with VYP.
As a working parent and mother of a child with autism, I bring a perspective grounded in inclusion, empathy, and building an environment where everyone feels they belong. In my role as Vice Chair for VYP, I am committed to creating a supportive space where members are encouraged to share their unique skills and talents. I look forward to advancing Marcus’s vision and goals as Chair, while also expanding and clarifying leadership opportunities within our board committees to help members grow as leaders and make meaningful contributions. Additionally, my goal is to work with Marcus and the board to develop a dashboard that tracks our progress, aligns our efforts, and highlights our achievements. Regular updates from this dashboard will keep all members informed, engaged, and connected throughout the year.
Another key goal of mine is expanding outreach and increasing member engagement. By connecting with professionals from a wide range of industries, backgrounds, and experiences, we can broaden our perspective and amplify our impact across the greater Phoenix Metropolitan area. I’m especially excited to grow mentorship and professional development opportunities that link experienced leaders with emerging talent and to spotlight the stories and accomplishments of our members, because each of you brings valuable strengths to VYP.
Those who have worked with me know I lead with both heart and purpose, bringing organization, positivity, and follow-through to every commitment. As Vice Chair, I will lead with intentionality, promote shared leadership, and collaborate closely with the board to advance VYP’s goals.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve! I’m very excited for the year ahead and look forward to building new opportunities for growth, leadership, and connection within the VYP community.
With gratitude,
Lauren Smith
