Routes to Asia have always been seen as the brass ring of international service to air service development leaders at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Significant, collaborative efforts working on landing flights to Asia in recent years have paid off with the recent news that two different airlines will be starting this critical service for Arizona.
STARLUX Airlines announced in May its intention to inaugurate new nonstop flights between PHX and Taoyuan Airport in Taipei. The service is scheduled to begin Jan. 15, 2026, with three flights a week. STARLUX Airlines will initially begin service with an Airbus A350-900 aircraft that has 306 seats. Flights will increase to four times a week in March. This is the first nonstop air service to Asia for Phoenix and Arizona, and it came on the heels of the largest foreign direct investment ever with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s plans to invest $165 billion into its north Phoenix facilities.
“Phoenix’s first non-stop flight to Asia reflects the incredible strides we’ve made with our local economy, and our emergence as an international city,” said Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. “TSMC’s historic investment in Phoenix has brought thousands of high wage jobs and boosted our reputation as a semiconductor hub, and now it’s helping increase air service demand.”
Before July was over, Taiwan-based China Airlines announced it too will begin new service to Phoenix on Dec. 3, 2025. Flying an Airbus A350-900 with three round-trip services each week, the airline intends to also connect Taiwan with emerging tech hubs like PHX, which also offers connections to more than 130 domestic destinations.
Phoenix international flights add more than $3 billion to the local economy each year, according to the airport’s most recent economic impact study.
