Holiday Travel Season Begins Early

Travel tips ease your voyages

Holiday travel seems to start earlier and earlier each year, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is here for it.

Fall break in the first two weeks of October started the busy season, with high passenger traffic at PHX filling parking garages and terminals with passengers wanting a post-summer getaway. We also expect the airport to be very busy in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving and the December holidays.

To help de-stress your planning and avoid potential travel pitfalls, here are some PHX travel tips to keep in mind:

  • Departing passengers and loved ones who are picking them up should confirm their flight status with their airline before coming to the airport. You can go to the skyharbor.com homepage to check out flight information.
  • Reserve your spot and time in the TSA Security Checkpoint line with PHX RESERVE. Schedule a time up to six days in advance before arriving at the airport. It’s free!
  • Avoid parking headaches. Make a reservation and guarantee your spot at skyharbor.com/parking.
  • Whether you’re flying out for a holiday or picking up a loved one, use the PHX Sky Train® Stations at 24th Street or 44th Street. The 24th Street Station is a great option for passengers arriving from the west, and the 44th Street Station is ideal for travelers arriving from the east. Have we mentioned it’s free?
  • Need a hand? Contact one of our friendly volunteer Navigators. You’ll see them wearing a purple blazer standing by or behind an information counter to offer assistance or help travelers find their way. And, by the way, the Navigator program is celebrating a quarter century this year, so you can wish them a “happy anniversary” at the airport!

As a bonus for our customers, Days of Gratitude will be back to show our appreciation to travelers flying through PHX. Special activities and treats await them beginning Nov. 18, with visits from airport mascot Amelia and Navigator Buddies. The program is beginning earlier than in previous years to spread cheer to our Thanksgiving holiday travelers. The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is historically the busiest travel period at Phoenix Sky Harbor.

Days of Gratitude continues Nov. 25, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16.

The idea to shower customers with gratitude at America’s Friendliest Airport® started three years ago to enhance the passenger experience during busy travel periods. Other activities, like a spin-the-wheel game to win a prize, will be offered to acknowledge and thank our customers.

Phoenix Sky Harbor has seen unprecedented passenger traffic in PHX in recent years, and we expect the airport to be as busy as usual as 2025 winds down. With a little help from our travel tips, passengers can ensure their trip is as enjoyable as a fall vacation.
