Businesswoman Spotlight: Dr. Janice Johnston, Redirect Health

Dr. Janice Johnston has built her career on the belief that healthcare should be simpler, more affordable, and accessible to everyone. As a cofounder of Redirect Health, she has played a vital role in advancing an organization that is reshaping the way individuals and businesses think about healthcare. Redirect Health’s mission is clear: to eliminate waste, remove barriers, and deliver healthcare solutions that put people first. With operations in all 50 states, Redirect Health leverages innovative systems, technology, and care navigation to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time, while helping employers and individuals control costs in a sustainable way.

Dr. Johnston has been deeply involved in aligning operational excellence with the company’s values. She has helped guide Redirect Health through periods of rapid growth, creating systems that scale while maintaining high standards of patient care and service. A hallmark of her work has been a focus on care navigation, ensuring members are not left to figure out the complexities of the healthcare system alone, but instead are supported every step of the way. By championing accountability, integrity, and service, she has reinforced the culture that makes Redirect Health unique in a crowded and often confusing healthcare marketplace.

Her work extends across strategy, governance, and people leadership. She has contributed to strengthening provider relationships, building transparent reporting processes, and developing member-focused innovations that reduce unnecessary costs.  In doing so, she has helped create a workplace that values both innovation and compassion, ensuring Redirect Health delivers on its commitment to care more than is normal.

In addition to her leadership within Redirect Health, Dr Johnston has actively represented the company in the broader healthcare ecosystem. She has engaged with business leaders and community partners to share insights on how new models of healthcare delivery can improve outcomes while lowering costs. These efforts have strengthened Redirect Health’s reputation as a thought leader in healthcare innovation and a trusted partner for employers, employees, and families alike.

Her approach is informed not only by business acumen but also by a deep appreciation for the people at the center of healthcare. She believes that every initiative must ultimately answer one simple question: What would I want for my own family? This patient-first mindset has made her a trusted voice within Redirect Health and an advocate for sustainable, people-centered reform in the industry.

Beyond her work with Redirect Health, Dr Johnston has devoted significant energy to her philanthropic work in the music community. As a long-time board member and now Chair of the Board of The Blues Foundation and leader of it’s HART Fund, she has championed the health and well-being of blues musicians and their families. Under her leadership, the HART Fund expanded its scope from emergency medical support to proactive wellness programs, offering free health screenings, hearing protection, and preventive care at music events. She has witnessed firsthand the resilience of artists and the generosity of the community, and she continues to serve as a bridge between her healthcare expertise and her passion for music preservation.  She also serves on the board of directors for MusicallyFed, a non-profit organization that works to mobilize the music industry in the fight against hunger. The foundation works with artists, promoters, management, and venues nationwide to donate unused, backstage meals to community organizations comprised of at least 50% veterans and who focus on feeding people facing homelessness, hunger, and food insecurity.

Today, Dr. Johnston continues to combine her professional leadership and philanthropic spirit. In both arenas, her commitment is the same: to build systems that serve people with dignity, transparency, and compassion. Whether driving innovation in healthcare or advocating for the well-being of musicians, she remains guided by a belief in service, community, and impact that lasts well beyond her own work.
