APS shares insights on how they’re growing Arizona’s economy

On June 18, Kelly Patton, Senior Economic Development Consultant – Statewide Programs for APS, shared how the state’s longest serving utility supports crucial business and economic development efforts in Arizona.

Serving 1.2 million customers in 11 out of 15 counties across the state, APS collaborates with state, county, regional, and municipal economic development organizations to promote Arizona as an opportunity for business investment that creates jobs and capital investment expenditures conducive to a healthy economy.

Economic Development
Through a robust economic development program, APS works to grow Arizona’s economy.

“Our job is to attract, retain, and grow business and industry within our service territory,” said Patton. “If it [an economic development project] doesn’t land in our service territory, we still want it to be in Arizona. So whatever we can do to support those other teams, we will do.”

In her presentation, Patton stressed how APS values their ability to meet the demands of business and to respond rapidly to those evolving needs.

“We have a customer technology team dedicated to working with the [changing] business environment,” said Patton.

With a focus on helping Arizona’s business owners thrive, APS is growing the economy from within and helping businesses to expand.

Arizona Prospector
As a complement to their economic development efforts, APS created the Arizona Prospector platform in partnership with the Arizona Commerce Authority.

ArizonaProspector.com provides access to site selection information, community demographics and talent statistics, relevant business data, dynamic maps, property information, and comparison tools. This availability of dynamic data tool makes it easier for all economic development organizations in the state to provide timely, comparative data to companies looking to expand or relocate anywhere in Arizona.

“We provide this tool to the business community, cities, and towns as a data resource,” said Patton.

The website is an interactive way for businesses, governments, economic developers, and others to visually map where they can grow their business.

“You can search this data two ways to Sunday,” said Patton.

The platform connects business location and expansion opportunities in the right locations.
