Make a Meaningful Connection with a Senior…Volunteer with Duet!

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s the importance of human connection.  Built 40 years ago on the idea of interpersonal connections, Duet’s mission is to promote health and well-being through vitally needed services to homebound adults, family caregivers, faith communities, and grandfamilies.

YOU can share your compassion with a senior.  Did you know that intergenerational connections enhance the well-being of both groups? Duet pairs caring volunteers with isolated people who need help to stay living in their own homes. Last year alone, our volunteers helped 368 vulnerable seniors fight loneliness and isolation through more than 10,000 hours of dedicated service. We can deliver compassion, dignity, and hope to even more seniors with your gift of time.

Duet volunteers choose their own schedule and may serve days, evenings, or weekends. Volunteers help with the following services:

  • Grocery shopping
  • Rides to medical appointments
  • Friendly visits and phone calls
  • Technology assistance – there are 7 seniors on the wait list who really need your help with this!
  • Paperwork assistance

As a young professional with a passion for volunteering, you will gain valuable career-building experience helping seniors fight loneliness and isolation. To become a Duet volunteer, you must be at least 18 years old and be able to qualify for a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance card. The total cost for having your prints done and obtaining the card through DPS (Department of Public Safety) is $73.  After six months of active volunteering, Duet will refund the cost of the card to you at your request.

The next step is to attend an orientation at the Duet office which is centrally located in northwest Phoenix at I-17 & Dunlap. There are upcoming orientations on February 8, March 8, and April 5.  It’s easy to sign up –  RSVP here!

“Having someone check on me and knowing someone cares means a lot to me. I struggle greatly with isolation. Thank you so very much!”
