Part of being an engaged citizen and young professional in Phoenix means participating in the political process through voting. This year, voters will decide races for many important Federal, State and Local offices; they will also weigh in on a myriad of ballot questions on a range of policy issues. This blog post lays out a number of resources to help ensure Phoenix’s young professionals are eligible to vote, and that they have the ability to make informed decisions in the upcoming election.
IMPORTANT DATES: Step 1 (ensuring that you are eligible and registered to vote) begins with knowing these important deadlines for the 2022 General Election Cycle:
REGISTER TO VOTE: Arizona offers online voter registration through the ServiceArizona website. This must be completed no later than October 11 if you want to participate in this year’s election.
VIEW A SAMPLE BALLOT: Now that you’ve registered, you can look up a sample copy of the ballot that you will receive at https://beballotready.vote/. Check your status, fill in your personal information, open your dashboard and click “What’s on My Ballot?” to view an exact replica of the ballot you will receive when you go to vote. This will show you the list of candidates, districts, and ballot questions/propositions that you are eligible to vote for.
GET INFO ON THE CANDIDATES & BALLOT MEASURES: Now that you know the names of the candidates on your ballot, the districts that you can vote in, and the ballot questions you will be asked, you can research individual candidates and ballot measures. Additionally, there are numerous official resources that provide more information:
- The Arizona Secretary of State’s Office has a website with info on all Federal (US Senate & Congressional) and State Government candidates, as well as state-wide Ballot Propositions.
- The Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission (CCEC) has produced the 2022 Voter Education Guide, which gives background on all candidates for AZ’s State Government Offices (Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Treasurer, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Corporation Commission, Mine Inspector, State Senator, and State Representative)
- The CCEC has also compiled info on all ten statewide ballot propositions at this website.
- The City of Phoenix has a website dedicated to the Council elections that will occur on November 8 – including candidate lists and key dates specific to the Phoenix municipal election.
The last and most important step is to ensure that you cast your ballot no later than Election Day, November 8!
