After days of delay because one legislator opposed the continuation budget, the legislature was finally able to send Governor Hobbs the majority-crafted continuation budget for FY 2024. As was expected by most, the governor vetoed the budget for not addressing her priorities. Read the governor’s veto letter to learn more.
In addition to sending the budget to the Ninth Floor, the Legislature also garnered a two-thirds majority to waive the K-12 Aggregate Expenditure Limit (AEL) for the current fiscal year. Failure to do so would have resulted in sharp reductions in school expenditures. The GPC applauds the legislature for addressing this issue and encourages them to work on a long-term solution going forward.
