2,000 care kits assembled by employee volunteers to support unhoused individuals in Phoenix
PHOENIX (June 6, 2026) — More than 100 Southwest Gas employee volunteers and their family members came together with Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS) Saturday morning to assemble 2,000 personal care kits for unhoused individuals, launching the Southwest Gas Foundation’s 60th Anniversary Month of Giving.
The event, held in partnership with Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS), marked the first of six volunteer projects taking place across Arizona, Nevada, and California throughout June. Supported by
a $60,000 donation from the Southwest Gas Foundation, employees across the Company’s service territory will assemble a total of 6,000 care kits through BLUE (“Building Lives Up Everywhere”), Southwest Gas’ employee volunteer program that empowers employees to give back to the communities where they live and work.
Volunteers packed kits containing personal hygiene and summer heat relief essentials, including hand and body wipes, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, shaving cream, and cooling towels. The kits will be distributed by CASS to unhoused individuals across its three shelters throughout the Phoenix area. “This event reflects the legacy of compassion and commitment to our communities that has defined the Foundation since its beginning—working alongside nonprofit organizations like CASS and providing support, dignity, and hope to our neighbors in need,” said Brad Harris, Arizona Regional Vice President for Southwest Gas. “We are proud to celebrate this milestone by rolling up our sleeves to support our neighbors and continue the work by cultivating meaningful partnerships and building stronger communities for future generations.”
The event also highlighted Southwest Gas’ long-standing relationship with CASS. Through both volunteerism and philanthropic support, Southwest Gas and the Southwest Gas Foundation have partnered with the organization for many years to address housing insecurity and provide critical support services throughout the Valley, including support for The Haven Senior Shelter, a first-of-its-kind facility serving vulnerable seniors experiencing homelessness.
“Strong community partnerships are essential to helping individuals move from crisis to stability,” said Nathan Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Central Arizona Shelter Services. “Southwest Gas and the Southwest Gas Foundation have been incredible partners, not only through their financial support but through the time and energy their employees dedicate to our mission. The care kits assembled today will provide resources and comfort to individuals experiencing homelessness while demonstrating that our community cares about their well-being and success.”
