As the busy holiday travel rush approaches, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is gearing up to welcome thousands of travelers. Known as one of the busiest travel periods of the year, the days before and after Thanksgiving often bring packed terminals, crowded roadways and plenty of hustle throughout the airport.
To brighten the journey and create a welcoming experience for travelers, America’s Friendliest Airport® is spreading holiday cheer through its Days of Gratitude program, with events on Nov. 17, Nov. 19, Dec. 15 and Dec. 17, featuring giveaways, activities and festive fun.
Being prepared can go a long way in helping both experienced and first-time travelers enjoy a smooth airport experience. A few simple steps can make the difference between a stressful rush and a relaxed start to a holiday trip.
Reserve Ahead
Reserve your parking spot as early as possible at skyharbor.com/parking. Holiday travel fills parking areas fast, and booking ahead is one of the best ways to secure a space. Plan extra time to park and reach your terminal. Pro tip – after you park, take a quick photo of the nearest parking pillar so you can find your car with ease when you return.
Save time at security by reserving a spot in the TSA Security Checkpoint line with PHX RESERVE. This free service is available in all terminals, and reservations can be made up to six days before your trip.
Before Heading to the Airport
Pack smart by reviewing the TSA “What Can I Bring?” page before zipping up your bags. It is an easy way to avoid surprises at the checkpoint.
Departing passengers and those who are picking up loved ones should confirm their flight status with their airline before heading to the airport.
Arrive Early
Arrive at least two hours early for domestic flights and three hours for international travel. Arriving early helps you go through security with time to spare and allows you to enjoy the more than 100 restaurants, shops and services available at PHX.
Avoid Traffic Congestion
Whether you are flying out or picking someone up, consider using the PHX Sky Train® stations at 24th Street or 44th Street for pick up or drop off to skip heavy traffic near the terminals. The PHX Sky Train® offers convenient and free access to the terminals.
If picking up a loved one, use a free 24-hour Cell-Phone Waiting Lot instead of circling the terminals. Lots are located east of Terminal 4, west of the West Economy Garage and at the 44th Street PHX Sky Train® Station.
Ask for Help
If you need directions or have questions at the airport, look for our friendly volunteer Navigators in their signature purple shirts or blazers. They are happy to help.
