If you could choose one word to describe the State of Arizona today, the word would be “growth.”
The number of people who are flocking to the state is impressive. Maricopa County — for the third year in a row — welcomed more new residents than any other U.S. county, an average of 200 people a day from July of 2017 to June of 2018. Statewide, more than 122,000 people moved to Arizona during that same time period. By the 2020 Census, Phoenix is likely to pass Boston to become the 10th largest metro area in the U.S. The state’s exceptional quality of life is certainly a draw for people from around the world who want to enjoy the outdoor activities, scenery, cultural and entertainment offerings.
Employment is also growing. The creation of high-quality jobs is helping to boost the average rate of personal income in Arizona. This growth, plus population and employment increases, places the state at No. 3 in the country for Economic Momentum (State Policy Reports Index, 2019). Arizona was — again — just ranked as the Most Economically Competitive State in the Mountain Region for the third consecutive year in Site Selection Magazine’s 2019 rankings. And for the seventh year in a row, Arizona is ranked a Top 10 Best State For Business by Chief Executive Magazine. Forbes has called Arizona’s growth prospects for 2019 “among the best in the nation,” ranking our state among the Top 5 in its Best States for Business rankings.
These accolades are earned by the hard work and dedication of Arizona’s job creators, risk-takers and entrepreneurs. They build incredible companies which contribute to a vibrant, healthy economy and advance Arizona’s reputation as the best place to live, work and do business.
This success is also thanks in large part to the leadership of Governor Ducey, who has made it a top priority to ensure Arizona remains a business-friendly state, with a streamlined regulatory environment. It is the governor’s vision that Arizona remains the most welcoming state in the nation for new ideas, new people and new technologies.
As the state’s leading economic development organization, the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) is extremely proud of the role we play in helping grow and strengthen Arizona’s economy. We do this in part by serving as a chief resource to businesses large and small, providing them with the support they need, including custom site selection, programming to enhance company growth and helping ensure access to a steady pipeline of skilled talent to support that growth.
Since the ACA was formed in 2011, our team has worked more than 750 projects with companies that have committed to creating more than 138,000 jobs and investing nearly $21.6 billion of capital into our communities.
While we have much to celebrate, there is always more to be done.
The ACA is focused on continually raising the bar and exceeding our goals. The business community’s continued investments in Arizona are crucial to this effort. And one particular quality — above all else — helps build a winning culture and drive results for our state, and that’s teamwork. We’re grateful for the leadership of Governor Ducey and the collaboration with our many economic development partners across the entire state. When we work as a team, economic development opportunities abound and Arizona keeps winning.
