Travel Options Grow at Phoenix Sky Harbor

The availability of flights is critical for business travel, so the recent addition of scores of new markets at Phoenix Sky Harbor is a most welcomed gift for this important industry.

Even during the height of the pandemic, 11 airlines added 49 new markets, increasing access and options for both business and leisure travelers at America’s Friendliest Airport®.

A few highlights include:

  • Spirit Airlines announced new service to St. Louis, Milwaukee, New York LaGuardia and Detroit. The Detroit service launches later this month and includes daily, seasonal flights aboard an Airbus 320 aircraft.
  • British Airways resumed nonstop service to London Heathrow on Aug. 31, offering three flights per week. It has since increased to daily flights aboard a Boeing 777-200 aircraft.
  • (NOTE: This year, British Airways celebrated its 25th year anniversary serving Phoenix Sky Harbor. International flights provide a vital boost to the Arizona economy by hauling in about $3 billion each year! The overseas flights depart Phoenix at 7:15 p.m., arriving in London the next day at 1:15 p.m. A return flight then departs London at 2:15 p.m. and arrives in Phoenix at 5:05 p.m.)
  • In June, Southwest Airlines began new nonstop flights from Phoenix Sky Harbor to Honolulu and Kahului. In September, they began service to Lihue and Kona. All routes are offered year-round. Previously, only American and Hawaiian airlines provided service to Hawaii.
  • In December, a new airline to Phoenix will launch service. Denver Air Connection will offer nonstop service to Telluride through April.

In addition, six Canadian destinations were put on pause due to restrictions in both countries, and three others offered intermittent service throughout the pandemic.

Most paused routes have or are scheduled to resume this winter. Air Canada serves Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto, while WestJet serves Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Winnipeg.

There’s also more encouraging news from south of the border.

Last December, American Airlines added nonstop seasonal flights to the Baja California coastal towns of La Paz and Loreto, Mexico.
